Short Explanation
The National Popular Vote bill would guarantee a majority of the Electoral College to the presidential candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The bill would reform the Electoral College so that the electoral vote in the Electoral College reflects the choice of the nation's voters for President of the United States.   more

Thank you for your interest in National Popular Vote and our proposed "Agreement Among the States to Elect the President by National Popular Vote."

Just three weeks since we launched and the National Popular Vote plan has already earned praise and attention around the country. On Tuesday, The New York Times endorsed our plan. Not long before The Chicago Sun-Times urged Illinois legislators to get behind this reform.

Our effort was featured on NPR's Diane Rehm's show and in columns, blogs, and editorials throughout the country. Visit our website for all the stories.

Our kick off event in Washington featured former Congressman John Anderson (R-IL, and Independent candidate for President), former Congressman John Buchanan (R-AL), former Senator Birch Bayh (D-IN) and Chellie Pingree, President of Common Cause. Read the remarks here.

We have been contacted by legislators and citizens around the country who are excited by the effort and eager to see movement in their own state. Already legislation has been introduced in the Illinois State Senate, supported by a leading Democrat, Republican and independent.

We are backed by an outstanding advisory committee that includes not only the speakers at our press conference but also a few who couldn't be there in person - former Congressmen Tom Campbell (R-CA), and former Senators David Durenberger (R-MN) and Jake Garn (R-UT).

For over 50 years Americans have strongly supported a national popular election of the president. Our effort is politically feasible and can make it a reality, but we need your help. Please consider making a donation and stay tuned for more information in the weeks ahead.
